Not done baking

So this past Wednesday after work I went to my stop by my OB/GYN to drop off my maternity leave paperwork, and while I was filling out my end of the forms and talking to one of the receptionists, I must have had a series of contractions. Honestly I had been having Braxton Hicks (non-labor or practice contractions) all day and none of them were very severe, so I only only half noticed. During a contraction I'd start rubbing my belly and breathing a little heavier, but it wouldn't stop me from doing anything. So the receptionist asked me if I'd had many that day and she said that I had 4 of them with only about a minute between, and I paused and realized that in I must have had about 8 in the past hour. When I told her she got very concerned, and told me I had just missed my Dr, but I should go right over to Hoboken Medical Center right away, and that she'd call me a cab.

Being me, I told her it's only 2 blocks away so I could walk, and the contractions weren't that bad. So I had Francis meet me and got all checked in and hooked up to the fetal monitor and contraction monitor. After monitoring my contractions for about an hour (I was having them every 3 minutes) they hooked me up on an IV and decided I must be dehydrated ( I swear I drank so much water that day I was floating) and the nurses told me that since my water hadn't broken and I wasn't showing any other signs yet they were going to try to stop my contractions with fluids and if necessary drugs to force it to stop.

Seven hours and 3 IV bags later I was still having contractions very close together. Sometimes as close together as a minute or less. But no more than 4 minutes apart. And they were way more intense and painful then before. Plus the nurse stabbed the shit out of me putting in the IV in my hand and she had to do it twice. And of course since I'm terrified of needles it made me start throwing up and then I almost passed out. I'm a wuss.

Anyhow, at about midnight the on call doc finally decided that the contractions weren't gonna stop on their own, and they gave me a shot and my contractions immediately stopped. They monitored me for 2 more hours and then finally decided I could go home! I'd have our baby another day!
